Come in From the Heat

July 8, 2010

new castle henry county public library

hello!

it’s been quite hot here as of late. when the thermometer  reaches into the 90’s, i start thinking of things to do other than sit in the apartment in front of a fan. one of my most favorite (and cool) places to visit is the public library. it’s a great place to socialize too! some of the other hot weather activities that i like to do are swimming in the lake (even better if you have a friend with a pool) and hiking in the cool woods. work in the garden has to be done in the morning or evening. afternoon siestas are rejuvenating too!  living in indiana, you can always count on the weather changing and sometimes pretty fast. mother nature will provide respite from the heat for us soon.

how do you escape from the heat?

good morning!

cool and windy here on the prairie this morning. it’s expected to heat up, so the kids and me are packing our lunch and heading to summit lake to picnic, swim, and sun ourselves.

i live right next to the railroad tracks and snapped this photo earlier today on my way to the post office which i also live right next to.

i like to tell folks the kids and i live in the business district ;).

happy summer day!

ps does anyone else see a strange face in the window, or is it just me?

Snow Day (again)

February 16, 2010

another day off from school due to blowing and drifting snow. what a snowy winter it’s turning out to be!

i see this building every day when i come out my door and i never tire of looking at it. no one lives in it and it’s actually filled with old pianos and things piano related. the more imperfect things are, the more i’m drawn to them. i like it when things stand out;  it makes me want to get to know more about it, study it.

this interest in the imperfect applies to people as well as objects. i like trying to figure what makes a person tick. it’s also been very helpful to me in my work with the disabled. it’s very rewarding for me to be able to help someone learn to overcome the stigma a disabled person sometimes has to deal with and especially to be able to convey to them that i accept and  admire them for who they are instead of what they’re not.

i believe that a kind and compassionate approach always produces a positive result.

Favorite View

i have photographed this view many times.  i pass by here often as i head out for work, the hill, the library, and various other destinations. for me, it’s one of those idyllic scenes  i wrote about in an earlier post. i took this on a foggy morning and i just love how the tree’s branches are highlighted. also, it’s always nice to visit my cow friends, who on this morning, were quite vocal. i think they were complaining to me about the cold and the snow.

i wonder, how many more days until spring?

p.s. a few more inches of snow on the prairie. i’m so grateful i have a friend who can plow me out when the snow gets deep.

Intention 2

when i think about living with intention, certain words come to my mind: freedom, liberation, creativity, peace, love.  wow.  just how does one go about living this way? for me, it’s a constant work in progress. the first big moment of realization for me was learning about the ego; how we really have to learn through observation in ourselves and then also observing  others with more acceptance and less  judgement. another big lesson for me is learning  the practice of living in the present moment. even though i’m not always successful and have moments where the ego takes over or i obsess over things i can’t control, i do my best to catch myself and learn. every time i get it, i feel a little more free.

 Blue

Blue, songs are like tattoos
You know I’ve been to sea before
Crown and anchor me
Or let me sail away
Hey Blue, there is a song for you
Ink on a pin
Underneath the skin
An empty space to fill in

Intention

it’s my intention to  grow creatively. this photo was a fun collaboration and what i hope will be a more diverse direction with my photography subjects.

change can be difficult. when in doubt, follow your intuition.

Don’t Let it Bring you Down

Blind man running through the light of the night
With an answer in his hand,
Come on down to the river of sight
And you can really understand,
Red lights flashing through the window in the rain,
Can you hear the sirens moan?
White cane lying in a gutter in the lane,
If you’re walking home alone.

Don’t let it bring you down
It’s only castles burning,
Just find someone who’s turning
And you will come around.
